WHY AM I DOING THE RACE?
I found
out about it thanks
to my dad, who discovered the yachts' were visiting Singapore. my gap
year was looming ahead, and I realised that by doing the Clipper race,
I could not only have a great time and travel the world, but I could
become part of the fantastic world of sailing, and be immersed in the
history and science that the decades of yacht racing have accumulated.
People say that this is a challange, mentally and physically, and I
simply could not resist!
WHAT DO I DO FOR FUN? I love to read books, all kinds. I am also starting to write. I want to
write a book, and because I will be spending so much time on the race,
sailing will probably become a main theme in it. I also love running,
and frequent the river side walkways of singapore, although I only do
this at night since the humidity and brightness of the day here
increases the difficulty significantly. I am also a keen cook. I cook
everyday, being enthusiastic about the benefits of healthy food.
WHAT AM I PASSIONATE ABOUT?
I am attempting veganism. that is, not consuming dairy and eggs as well
as meat. For those not familier with the theory, we are trying to
decrease the demand for animal products so they will not be bred in
huge numbers and live in terrible conditions just to satisfy a craving
for a scoop of ice cream.

WHAT AM I MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO?
I am looking forward to the challenge. I am also looking forward to
meeting countless new people who are passion driven into doing the
race. I think the journey will be the best part, but I am sure I will
still look forward to the end, when I come out tired and not too clean,
but being able to say
"I did that".
Also, for some reason, I am not too
disgusted at the thought of the questionable hygenic circumstances
aboard, as showers will be rationed, but instead i see it at a kind of
release from everyday life here on land. i think the yacht will be a
compleatly different world, with only the sea and sky replacing the
skyscrapers in singapore.
WHAT AM I LEAST LOOKING FORWARD TO?
I do sometimes get motion sickness, so I hope that isn't such a big
problem. the waves and swell rock the boat harder when it is moving at
a slower pace, so i am hoping for some luck and speed. I am also not
looking
WHY DO I LIVE IN SINGAPORE?
I moved here with my parents and three younger siblings a year ago,
because of my dad's job. I was enrolled at Tanglin Trust School and we
rented an appartment in Clarke Quay, which is great for the nightlife,
but it is starting to feel a bit more crowded than it did a year ago.
Singapore is very different from the village in England where I grew
up, I think it is the most international business centre in the world,
as well as the most compatitive in the workplace.
FIVE INTERESTING THINS ABOUT ME?
1) My favourite genre of fiction I like to write in is horror. Stay tuned for that book I was telling you about!
2)
In school I studies Physics, Art and Maths, and ended up getting three
A's from my predicted grades, which were in the range of D,U,U.
3)
In england, i frequently made trips to London to my modelling agency,
who got me into magazines such as Teen Vogue NY and Vogue UK. on the
Vogue shoot i had the privilage of meeting Mario Testino, the worldwide
renowned photographer. i quit the world of modelling soon after though,
my school studies being more important.
4) I can juggle. strange as it may be, I find it very theraputic and good for hand eye co-ordination.
5) Although I am 18 now, I will be 20 when i have finished the race! that means
taking two gap years. I still haven't decided what course to do at
university yet, although I am certain i want to do it in my home
country.
WHY SHOULD ANYONE ADVERTISE WITH ME?
I
am enthusiastic and determined. If you sponsor me, I will represent you
or your company by wearing your logo with pride, and making sure that
everyone i meet has no reason to look at your company with anything but
respect. in other words, I will promote your company to the best of my
ability.
